About
Us:
Originally
formed over 30 years ago by Carl Stanton on the principle of "good
competitive racing, on near standard BSA Bantam machines, at a reasonable
cost for ages 12-16 and 16 years plus, on 125/150/175cc bikes" Bantam
grasstrack was born. This was reviewed and revived by the Formula
Grasstrack Association which is now the governing body, and incorporates
Wrekin Grasstrack Club, and the Whitchurch Motorcycle Club, to
include the formula of a "bog standard" 125cc four stroke Honda machines,
enlisting more youth classes followed, we can now cater for all age groups
i.e. Cadet 6-9 years(100cc), Cub 9 - 12 years (125cc), Junior 12 - 16
(125cc), and Seniors 16 years plus, All competitors are now using air
cooled 4 stroke Honda engines after the BSA power unit was phased out in
2009.
The season comprises approximately off 12 race meetings
from mid April to the end of October. All meetings are run as championship
rounds, trophy events are incorporated in these with a big final race and
there is usually one pairs meeting .
Famous grasstrack and speedway riders that have emanated
from the incorporated clubs of Formula Grasstrack include Graham Jones, of
Wolves and England speedway, 13 times British 250cc Champion Mark
Wadsworth, Wayne Broadhurst, Carl Wilkes, Graham Thomas, James Mann, Lee
Smethills, Jack Hargreaves and Adam Roynan. Rising star young Tom Perry
went through all the classes of FGA racing.
The FGA pioneered the first four stroke youth International
in 2002. Held in July at Habberley, Shropshire, during the British
Grasstrack championships whereby Dutch riders were invited to ride with
the FGA youth riders on the Saturday and Sunday.
If you would like to know more, or join the Association as
