About
Us:
Originally formed over 30 years ago by Carl Stanton on
the principle of "good competitive racing, on a near standard BSA Bantam
machine, at a reasonable cost for ages 12-16, and 16 years plus, on a
125/150/175cc grasstrack bike". This was reviewed and revived by the
Formula Grasstrack Association which is the governing body, and
incorporates Wrekin Grasstrack Club, Manchester Bantam Grasstrack Club
and the Whitchurch Motorcycle Club, to include the formula of a "bog
standard" 125cc four stroke Honda machine and up to 175cc two stroke BSA
Bantam enlisting more youth classes i.e. Cadet 6-9 years(100cc engine),
Cub 9 - 12 years (125cc), Junior 12 - 16 (125cc), and Seniors 16 years
plus (125cc four stroke, or 175cc Bantam two stroke).
The season comprises approximately 15 race meetings from the end of
March to the end of October. The majority are trophy and FGA
championship meetings, and there is one international meeting .
Famous grasstrack and speedway riders that have emanated from the
incorporated clubs of Formula Grasstrack include Graham Jones, of Wolves
and England speedway, 13 times British 250cc Champion Mark Wadsworth,
Wayne Broadhurst, Graham Davies, James Mann and Lee Smethills.
The FGA pioneered the first four stroke youth International in 2002.
Held in July at Habberley, Shropshire, during the British Grasstrack
championships whereby Dutch riders were invited to ride with the FGA
youth riders on the Saturday and Sunday.
If you would like to know more, or join the club as a rider or helper to
preserve the grassroots of the FGA and the future of grasstrack, please
contact the FGA secretary via our contacts page.
Our
Aims:
To promote Formula Grasstrack in most parts of the
country which can only be achieved by recruitment of riders nationwide.
