SUPER SAM'S SIX OF THE BEST - AND TOP SPOT SHARED IN THE SENIOR CLASS

Junior Sam Carvill was the only rider to go through the card unbeaten in Round 6 of the FGA Championship on Saturday, run by the Whitchurch Motor Cycle Club at their Malpas, Rally Site venue.

Struggling to get grip off the start line, he did not make the first turn once but clever inside/outside passing manouveres over his rivals on a tricky-slick track saw him come out on top of the pile with a 42 point maximum giving him 10 valuable points towards his title challenge on absentee Richard Guest.

Runner up in the Junior class on 26 points was Gary Braithwaite.  Fast gating made him the man to catch in most of his races and on a couple of occasions, he got to lap 3 before being caught by Carvill.  This was his best result so far, and he must now be looking to a regular top spot.

In third place was newcomeer to FGA racing, Stoke's Scott Gibbons.  In only his 2nd meeting and despite a fall on the slippy 1st and 2nd turns where he trapped the fingers on his clutch hand, he managed to get the ex-Glynn Edwards machine going and score 17 points.  8 points towards his first season's championship will do him very nicely!

Steve Frays had a slow day by his standards, machine trouble kept him down on power with 15 points and a joint 4th place with another FGA newcomer, Doncaster's Dale Hunter.  Changing his riding style from leg trailing to foot forward saw him gain confidence and get quicker throughout the day.  Spotted in Dale's pits was Pre-75 front runner, John Shelmerdine, passing on tips all day to the youngster!  How long will it be before we see him on an FGA bike?  Shelly, if you are intereste, Coxy has got one in his shed!!!!

Rob Braithwaite had a day to forget and an engine misfire gave him 6th spot but still gained him 5 league points in this year's championship.

With several riders attending the wedding of fellow FGA'er, Adrian Guest, the senior class was smaller than normal but still produced some good racing and probably the race of the season so far.

Championship leader Steve Mildoon had problems in practice, dropping a chain in both warm-ups leaving him with a few repairs before the main event and rival, Len Sanders, also struggling with his set up needed a late run to get it right.  However, at the end of the day, it was "The Geezer on the Beezer" and the classy riding Championship Leader Steve "The Loon" Mildoon (no offence meant Steve!) who shared the spoils of joint top spot with 36 points.

Going into the last race, Sanders had the upper hand over his rival having beaten him 3 heats to 2.  This last heat then proved to be a cracker and probably the best race of the year.  With passing and re-passing on every part of the track, Sanders seemed set for the overall win until Mildoon dived up the inside on the last corner, hooked up and got a tight line and took the flag! - End Result? 36 points apiece but more importantly, 10 points each towards the championship title!

Despite a heavy fall and zero points in his 3rd heat and missing his next race which his pit crew "gently" repaired the damaged front forks, James Williams got a hard earned last rostrum place scoring 16 points.  Cheshire's Anthony Slack's neat riding gave him 4th overall with 14 points and last but not the least of the Braithwaite brothers, Stuart gained a solid 5th position with 13 points.  Credit here must go to the Braithwaite family, the FGA's first with 3 brothers riding simultaneously and also for their promotional work with video's that can be seen on You Tube of recent events!!  Good work Team!  Also watching them pack up at the end is an event in itself!!!! 4 bikes in a people carrier and on a 2-bike trailer....WOW!  Bet you guys hold the record for the most people in a telephone box!!!!!

FGA's leading lady rider, Claire Frays, had a day to forget after looking classy in practice, electrical trouble relegated her to take 6th with 7 points.

Full marks to the meeting organiser, Mike Flynn for herding the sheep after the interval!  To all the meeting helpers who made this meeting possible - we thank you all!

Any update as to the Meeting Scheduled for 30th August will be notified by Andy Perry.

Tuesday 12th August 2008:

Wrekin Grasstrack Club run round 5 of the championship at shawbury, producing some close racing with long standing FGA rider Len Sanders coming out on top. Championship Leader didn't have it all his own way been one of two riders to beat Sanders on the day. Sanders got the bantam going well and proved hard to catch with mildoon second with Perry finishing 3rd.

In the juniors Richard Guest rode to a faultless maximum beating rider of the day brother Mike into second with Sam Carvill coming 3rd.

Unfortunately in the cubs a fall for Harry Slack in this 4th ride left Michael Neale the outright winner.

*Website note* I have now got all the updated photos from this years meetings from Ron and as you can imagine there is a fair amount so I will upload them as soon as possible (hopefully by the end of the week) and the gallery will go live!

REPORT - Maximum Man Mildoon

Steve Mildoon was the only rider to go through the card unbeaten on Saturday in Round 4 of the FGA Championship run by Whitchurch MCC.  The in-form rider often came from the back making light work of a track made slick by earlier torrential rain.

2nd Place went to Claire Frays, the FGA's top lady rider, beating more experienced riders she made this her best career performance to date!

Staunch FGA supporter Sam Flowers took a closely contested 3rd place from the youngster, James Williams in 4th.

Our very own President, Wallasey's Mike Flynn continued his good run of form in taking 5th place from the new "bus pass qualifier" Len Sanders in 6th just proving again that the FGA is for all ages!

An increased under 16 entry enabled the cub and junior classes to run separate heats.

FGA newcomers Jack and Max Cornes battled for brotherly supremacy in the Cubs with Jack dropping just 2 points on the day from 6 rides!  Hertfordshires Rocco Casale grabbed 3rd place by a solitary point from the classy Michael Neale with Harry Slack continuing to improve in every race taking 5th.

Richard Guest increased the pressure on Championship Leader and rival, Sam Carvill by stealing the win in the Junior Class whilst a broken throttle cable relegated Mike Guest into 3rd place with Rob and Gary Braithwaite taking 4th and 5th places respectively.  Unlucky Steven Frays was left "smouldering" after an electrical problem left him in the pits and unable to race!

Overall a good day was enjoyed by all with the weather staying kind for the racing!  The organisers also wish to thank all those who stepped up and helped on the day - without you, the meeting could not have gone ahead!

The next meeting is on 2nd August 2008 at Shawbury.  Regulations are available from Andy Perry.

Thursday 3rd July 2008:

Whitchurch MCC can confirm that the meeting scheduled for Saturday, 19th July 2008 will be running at our popular Crewe venue.  Entries received for the postponed June meeting will be carried forward to the new meeting date.

Sunday 9th June 2008:

CREWE - 14th JUNE 2008

Regrettably, Whitchurch MCC have had to cancel this coming Saturday's meeting at Moss Lane, Crewe.

After speaking with Shaun Stoddard, who is the clubs contact with the farmer for this venue, he tells us that at this point in time he cannot accommodate us.  We are endeavouring to contact the landowner personally with a view to securing future dates.

We apologise for any inconvenience and can confirm that all riders entered into the meeting will be contacted directly.

REPORT : MARK EVANS

Tuesday 3rd June 2008:

A big news update for the site today & I also believe it gets us up to date meetings wise! Firstly the FGA have officially announced the below statement.

"We were sorry to hear of Lee Complin's Road Accident last week.  Although we are not aware of the nature or severity of Lee's injuries, We extend our thoughts and best wishes to him and his family as a true friend of the FGA and look forward to seeing him up and about soon." - From all at the FGA!

Whitchurch MCC host The Jonathan Rodgers Memorial alongside the next round of the FGA Championship on 14th June 2008.  The venue is Moss Farm, Moss Lane, Crewe, CW1 4RL with Practice 1pm, Racing 2pm

Regs are available to download from the web-site Here!  However, for those who were not at Malpas, paper sets are being sent through the post as well.

Please can you have your entries in as quickly as possible?  Due to time/work commitments, we would like the programme put together early rather than late!

FORMULA 50+

Maturity was the winning factor at the weekend's FGA meeting at Malpas, run by the Whitchurch club.

Top spot in the Senior class went to Stockport's Dave Meredith.  Back to his best. this must surely be the real start to his championship campaign.  Len Sanders finally overcame lingering machine problems to take the runner up spot with FGA President and meeting organiser, Mike Flynn, riding to a rare rostrum place in 3rd.  It just goes to show that once Mike found his fuel tap.....he was onto a winning formula!!!!

A combined age of 190 for the top three truly demonstrates that the FGA caters for all!

Manchester's Michael Neale went through the card with a 6 ride maximum to take the win in the Cub Class with FGA newcomer, in his first meeting, Cheshire's Harry Slack taking second.

Sam Carvill continued to stamp his authority on the Junior Class with a classy

42 point maximum with Richard Guest, still recovering from a serious hand injury, working hard to take 2nd.  Younger brother, Michael rode to a comfortable third.

A special mention must go to Harry Slack's dad who stepped into the breach and did a fantastic job as a finish line marshal.....I am sure all the riders and officials are extremely grateful to you especially as it was Harry's first meeting!  It is commitment like this that keeps the FGA alive and kicking!!!!!

Also, a quick thanks to Denise Hinsley for also offering her services...again, we are very appreciative!

Chetton Meeting:

Steve Mildoon was again the dominant force of an excellent day's Formula Grasstrack racing at Chetton.

Mildoon followed up his victory in the first meeting of the season two weeks ago with another stylish, unbeaten performance to romp home in the senior class.

He set the trend with victory in the pre-meeting Golden Helmet match race and left all his rivals with only a view of his back wheel throughout the day.

Not even Tom Perry, the youngster making his mark in senior grasstrack this season, was able to rein Mildoon in, having to be content with second place in the senior standings.

There was a great comeback from injury for Richard Guest in the Junior section. Guest had missed the first meeting of the season after losing the index finger of his left hand in a recent accident.

Never the less, he looked back at his competitive best as he held off the challenge of Sam Carvill to take top honours in this class.

To complete a great day's racing in the Shropshire sunshine, Michael Neale took the cubs class, ahead of Kenny Bowdery and Rocco Casale.

Friday 23rd May 2008:

The regs for the Crewe meetings are now on the diary page to download!

Monday 12th May 2008:

The Whitchurch MCC kicked off  the 2008 season by attracting a bumper entry with several new riders that produced some superb racing.

A new face to the Cub class (9-12 years) saw Billy Milton reap the benefits of a long journey north to take the honours, winning by a 4 point margin from fellow newcomer Mancunian Michael Neale.  Billy’s travelling partner, Kenny Bowdery, took the final rostrum place with last season’s Cub Champion, Rocco Casale, taking the 4th spot.

Five wins from six rides saw Sam Carvill stamp his authority on this year’s Junior title (12-16 years),  taking 1st place in what must have been his best meeting to date.  The steady and much improved Michael Guest took 2nd from Steven Frays in 3rd, with brothers Gary and Rob Braithwaite taking 4th and 5th respectively.

Steve Mildoon, after an absence of 2 decades, returned to FGA action as though he had never been away!  Five wins and a second place made him the overall winner of the Senior Class (16-70+).  Meeting organiser and competitor, Mike Flynn, who at a spritely age of 74 could only complete one race due to a flat battery!

FGA stalwart, Mick Jones, cruised to a comfortable runners up spot.  A fall in the 4th leg kept the hard charging Sam Flowers down in 3rd.  Emerging talents Tom Perry and James Williams looked good all day and were rewarded for their efforts with 4th and 5th.  These two young lads must surely be contenders for a podium finish at the end of the season.

Surprisingly, usual front runners Steve Carvill, Dave Meredith and Len Sanders failed to shine but will surely hope to make a better account in the next round on 10th May at Chetton.  Details for this meeting can be obtained from Sam Flowers on 07974 128940.

Regulations for the Whitchuch Clubs meeting on 24th May 2008 will be available shortly from Mike Flynn (contact details on www.formula-grasstrack.co.uk)

Finally, an apology to all readers for the late report, this has been due to family bereavement.
